The darkest day in the club's history came when 66 Rangers fans never returned home from an Old Firm match after an incident on Stairway 13. A permanent memorial was unveiled in January 2001 on the 30th anniversary of the tragedy close to where Stairway 13 was situated in a statue of John Greig who was club captain on that day. The biggest memorial however was the redevelopment of Ibrox into a modern safe stadium it is today.
"And with the Angels I'll be singingUp in heaven there up aboveI'll be singing Follow FollowTo the Rangers that I loveAnd with my flute I will be playingIn the valleys & the glensI'll be happy & contentedWhen the Rangers win again."

50th anniversary of the Ibrox disaster memorial, 2nd January 2021.
